  • Exchange a cart
  • Report a missing cart
  • Report a damaged cart

Please review the information below and submit your request via the portal at the bottom of the page.

Important Information

After submitting an online portal request for cart exchanges or damage, leave your cart(s) in a spot that is visible and easily accessible to our contractor when they pull up along the road. Your cart(s) should not be placed behind a gated fence, in a shed or garage, or hidden around the side or back of your house. For example, if you normally store your carts behind a gated fence, temporarily move them in front of the fence so they are visible from the street. The carts just need to be visible from the end of your driveway, it is not required to place them right at the road edge.

If you live in a wildlife-frequented area, please visit our Wildlife & Waste page for tips to secure your waste. Contact us at curbside [at] rdn.bc.ca or 250-390-6501 to discuss other options if you live in a wildlife-frequented area.

All cart exchanges, repairs and deliveries are handled by the RDN's curbside contractor between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and weekends. Continue to use your carts for your scheduled collection days. If your cart waiting to be exchanged or repaired contains any waste, the contractor will transfer it into the replacement cart. Please expect replacement carts to be in used condition.

Estimated Delivery Timelines

  • Up to 12 weeks for cart exchanges.
  • Up to 2 weeks for replacement of missing carts or damaged carts in unusable condition.

Cart Exchange Administration Fee and Annual Utility Fees

All fees will be directly applied to the property's utility billing account. Cart exchanges must be submitted by the registered Property Owner.

Cart Exchange Administration Fee

For garbage and organic cart exchanges, an Administration Fee of $75 will be applied to the utility billing account. No Administration Fee will be charged for recycling cart exchanges.

The Administration Fee covers the contractor costs associated with picking up and dropping off carts, assigning the new carts to your property's GPS coordinates, and updating your utility billing account information.

Annual Utility Fees

Annual Utility Fees are determined by the size of the garbage cart. Please see below for the 2024 rates:

Cart Exchanges: Homes with Secondary Suites

If your property has split cart sets (one standard cart set for each dwelling unit), cart exchange requests may be submitted through the Curbside Collection Online Portal. When submitting your request, enter the serial number of the cart you are requesting to be exchanged.
