Climate Action
The pressing reality of climate change drives our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and strengthening the region’s capacity to withstand climate challenges. Local and global weather patterns are changing, and extreme weather events are occurring much more often. The impacts of a changing climate vary across regions in British Columbia, from sea-level rise and flooding in some areas to drought, heightened wildfire risk and invasive species in others. Within the RDN, key anticipated impacts are a reduced water supply, an escalation in hot and arid conditions and sea-level rise.
The RDN, in collaboration with member municipalities and residents, is taking proactive steps to prepare for current and future climate-related challenges.
