Regional Board
The Regional District is governed by an elected Board of 19 Directors. There are eight members on the Board representing the City of Nanaimo, two members representing the City of Parksville, one member each for the Town of Qualicum Beach and the District of Lantzville, and one for each of the RDN's seven Electoral Areas. The RDN Board has nine standing committees - the Electoral Area Services Committee, the Executive Committee, the Committee of the Whole, the Community Grants Committee, the Oceanside Services Committee, the Oceanside Services Recreation Grants Sub-Committee, the Regional Parks and Trails Committee, the Solid Waste Management Committee, and the Transit Committee. The Board and its Standing Committees meet regularly to govern the affairs of the District and to establish local bylaws and public policy. Board members also direct a variety of additional committees for key services throughout the region. Elections to the RDN Board occur every four years during province-wide local government elections. Vanessa Craig, Electoral Area B, is the RDN Board Chair, and Stuart McLean, Electoral Area H, is the Vice-Chair.
