Graded Site-Cut Timber Rebate
The BC Building code requires lumber used for structural purposes to bear a stamp from an accredited grading agency. Homeowners from an RDN Electoral Area who harvest and use timber on the same site are eligible for a rebate when using stamped and graded site-cut timber for structural use in renovations and new construction requiring a building permit.
To arrange for an Inspection (including stamping and grading), homeowners should contact Canadian Mill Services Association (CMSA) at 604-523-1288 or the Pacific Lumber Inspection Bureau (PLIB) at 604-732-1782. Alternatively, you can email Stuart Sing from the Canadian Mill Services Association - sing [at] canserve.org or call 604-230-2661.
The inspector will come to the site, and grade and Grade Stamp the lumber according to the Joists & Planks grading rules. Costs typically range between $400-$800 per inspection, though the total cost will depend on travel, time on site, and expenses including the cost of the grade stamps.
