Emergency Support Services

The Regional District of Nanaimo Emergency Program provides Emergency Support Services (ESS) across our region as part of disaster preparedness, response and recovery.

What Does ESS Do? As an integral part of the RDN Emergency Program, ESS can:

  • Help people meet their basic needs during a disaster
  • Reunite families separated by disaster
  • Help people to re-establish themselves as quickly as possible after a disaster

Across B.C., ESS volunteers are prepared to assist their local community in the event of a crisis. When an emergency or disaster affects a community, ESS volunteers help provide the essential services necessary to sustain people until the community can return to pre-disaster conditions. During an emergency, trained support teams such as ESS can make times of crisis easier to manage. The general public can help with disaster response too, by becoming as informed and prepared as possible.

ESS volunteers are always needed!

There are no special skills, talents or experience required to be a volunteer. ESS can offer FREE accredited training from the Justice Institute of British Columbia, practical training and much more!
